HotDish 90cm FTA Satellite Antenna - The movie

I had a GREAT day playing with the new HotDish 90cm FTA Satellite Antenna. I knew it was arriving and could not sleep in anticipation (Sad but true). Sure enough around 10am the DHL guy showed up with the box, LARGE box! I got the camera out and started building the dish. It took me around 30 minutes to build, I am sure I will knock 10 minutes off that next time! I like to take my time with a new product!

Folks this is a MONSTER of a dish, have a look at the pictures below. It’s a full +2″ top and bottom (4″ total) and full +1.5″ (3″ total) bigger on each side than the “other guys” 90cm dish.

Before (and during) working in satellite I worked as a mechanical engineer for many years so I know all about close tolerances and limits and the HotDish 90cm must be the best dish I have ever assembled. Not once did I have to flex the dish to install the LNB support arms for example. Every other dish I have ever worked on with LNB support arms have caused some distortion in the dish parabola when the support arms were added. Every nut and bolt fits together with ease and there is never any stress on the dish reflector at all, it truely is the Rolls Royce of 90cm dish!

I don’t know how DMSi do it but yet again they have excelled with this product. I can’t see why anyone would ever buy any other brand of 90cm dish from now on. It’s so close it’s very very nearly a 1m dish!!! I am sure because of the quality it would perform as well as many 1m dish availble here in the USA.

THANKS DMSi your dedication to the FTA satellite hobby is very evident in the quality and time you put into these innovative products!

After installing the dish on my trusty 4 year old SG2100 Motor (That has never missed a beat, rain or shine) I hooked up my Trimax meter directly to the LNB. I could not get a signal to save myself, it was 0ver 90ºf and the wee Scots guy was starting to melt. I am so white I am transparent (like a spring roll MrsPSB likes to say). The only thing different to an everyday install was I was using a pre-made 30″ of RG6 cable, I replaced it with a known good 6′ run. I had signal in 30 seconds. Guys NEVER ever trust a pre made run of coax unless you have made it yourself!

The signal on the Trimax meter was a lot better than I have ever seen before! I rushed back inside into the air conditioning and proceeded to do a signal comparison with the “90cm” dish I had just removed.
For reference I use the Invacom SNH-031 Universal LNBF

These are fantastic results on a Traxis 3500 receiver!! I am sure I will be able to tweak a few more points of signal quality from the dish in the cooler weather but I am overjoyed at the increase in signal quality over all satellites.

Last thing I did was give the dish a coating of Kings rain Shield! RAIN! Bring it on
